Student Assistantship Grant Program Procedures

 

It is a goal of this assistantship program to provide capable assistants for Convergence Workshop, Studio and Seminar Leaders, while also providing students enrolled in Fiber Arts programs the opportunity to assist internationally known instructors and to participate in the Convergence experience.  The Convergence Student Assistantship Grant is funded by HGAÕs Fiber Trust.

 

To qualify, the student must be currently enrolled in an accredited academic program, should be able to fulfill the requirements of a class (workshop, studio, super seminar, seminar class) assistant, and available to attend a Training Class, time TBA, at the Convergence location. Application Procedures:

 

Professor provides:

1. A Letter of Nomination from the Professor for each student nominated to be a Convergence Assistant.

The letter should include the name of the Workshop or Studio Leader the student wishes to assist as well as the title of the workshop and/or studio. The letter should also list skills, interests and reasons for the recommendation. (For example: Why the student would be a good assistantÑdependable, has excellent skills, etc., and has studied a specific technique/subject, etc.

 

Student Provides:

1. Convergence Completed Registration Form without payment information.

a. STUDENT ASSISTANTSHIP APPLICATION written at the top of front page of the Convergence Registration Form or on the print out of the Online Registration Form (and write in space to provide more information).

 

b. List Workshop/s and/or Studio/s (number, title and LeaderÕs Name) the student wishes to assist on registration form.

 

2. Attach a separate piece of paper:

a. Write a brief paragraph as to why the student thinks this assistantship would be helpful to her or him.

b. Write a brief paragraph as to why the student thinks he or she will be a capable assistant for this workshop, studio or seminar Leader. (Include experience, skills, techniques, areas of expertise, etc.)

c. Please include an estimate of your financial needs:

If the Workshop or Studio Leader you wish to assist is not available, would you be willing to assist another Convergence Leader?

 

Accommodations are based on double occupancy. Are you willing to share a hotel room with another student of the same sex?

 

If you receive an assistantship are you willing to become an HGA Student Member at cost to you of $25?

 

HGA depends on available funding to make the Student Convergence Assistantship Grants a reality. Occasionally additional funding becomes available closer (3-4 weeks prior) to Convergence. If your summer schedule is flexible, please let us know in your application.
