HGA Teach-It-Forward Grant Rules

HGA Teach-It-Forward Grant Regulations
| HGA Teach-It-Forward Grant, established in 2003, will be awarded to an
individual for his/her effort in making the crafts of weaving and spinning
accessible to new weavers or spinners and in teaching beginners. This grant
is available to any individual who teaches spinning and/or weaving in a
private studio, shop, school, etc. It is available to an individual who
is doing an exceptional job of bringing new people to the craft and who
has an innovative plan or proposal for enlarging or increasing the scope
of teaching weaving and/or spinning. |

Proposal
The applicant
should explain how the grant funds would be used to improve his/her current
program, and the type of marketing the applicant plans to use to attract
and/or accommodate more students. This could take many forms: purchasing
equipment, acquiring space, promoting, etc.

| Applicants
should note their past teaching history; the types of venues where they
have taught; samples of teaching curricula and promotional materials from
the applicant's past teaching experiences, including profiles, number and
return rate of students per program. |
| The application
should include a statement of purpose or objective; how the recipient will
measure the objective; how the objective will be carried out; and items
that need to be in place to achieve this objective. |
The following regulations apply:
| 1. |
Applicants must be HGA members. |
| 2. |
Recipients
are not eligible to apply for another Teach-It-Forward Grant for three years. |
| 3. |
If
the program for which the grant money was received is cancelled or if the
grantee is unable to fulfill any of the grant's requirements, the funds
are to be returned to HGA. In the event of this occurrence, HGA will award
the grant to the next qualified candidate. |
| 4. |
The
grant is not to be used for study or application for the Certificate of
Excellence program or any other certification program. |

The
request for funds may be for up to the $500 grant amount or for part of
the $500 grant amount. Applicants should note if they are receiving funding
from any other source, and if so, the identity of that source and the funding
amount. |
| 6. |
Unsuccessful
proposals may be resubmitted in the future. |
| 7. |
The
recipient must make a report to HGA in writing, accompanied
by slides, digital images, or other visuals, notebook, and/or samples, within six months
of completing the program for which the grant was approved. Recipients must
sign a permission statement granting HGA permission to
excerpt from this report for editorial and marketing purposes. |
| 8. |
Applications
must be mailed to the Grant Administrator, Teach-It-Forward Grant, Handweavers
Guild of America, Inc., 1255 Buford Highway, Suite 211, Suwanee, GA 30024. |
| 9. |
Applications
must be postmarked by February 1 for notification by March 1.
