1969

Summer: HGA was begun by a handful of weavers in the summer of 1969 in response to a need and a challenge. First they got in touch with 125 of the nation's leaders in the fiber arts to determine whether there should be a national guild, what form it should take and what it should offer its members. By November 1, 1969, HGA had 1,000 members and from the enthusiastic responses the founders received a general pattern was evident of the ways in which a large number of weavers, spinners and dyers felt a national guild could be of greatest value.
