HGA’s Certificate of Excellence (COE) Exhibit

This exhibit will showcase the work of recent recipients of the COE Program in Handweaving, Handspinning, Dyeing and Basketmaking. DeVos Place Convention Center

Showcasing Grand Inspirations: Leaders Exhibit

This invitational exhibit of work created by Convergence 2006 Grand Rapids leaders, speakers and jurors will feature the recent work of those who teach and inspire in all areas of fiber art. DeVos Place Convention Center

Community Exhibits

HGA’s premiere annual Small Expressions 2006 and the HGA-sponsored Great Lengths—Yardage, Starting From One: A Progressive Collaboration, the work of sixteen Michigan artists and an exhibit of the work of artist Mary Fisher, ABATAKA, will be at the Gerald R. Ford Museum.

Celebration! HGA's Convergence 2006 Spiritual Exhibit using one or more fiber techniques will be located at the Fountain Street Church.

The Grand Welcome, HGA’s Convergence 2006 banner exhibit will be displayed at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park.

The American Tapestry Biennial VI and the Fiber Arts Network of Michigan exhibit, New Fibers 2006, will be held at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts.

Kendall College will be the site for the Wednesday Group Tapestry Exhibit; the TWIST Braids and Tabletweaving Exhibit; the small format tapestry exhibit, Small Format, Grand Ideas; and the Schacht Spindle Student Exhibit. Artists Chunghie Lee and Jiyoung Chung will have an exhibit at the LaFontsee Gallery. Millwaste Fibers Exhibit will be held in the same building.

The Grand Rapids Art Museum will host the exhibit, Jacquard Weaving: Works by American Weavers. Calvin College Center Art Gallery will host California Fibers, Designing Weavers Guild; and I Felt Like It: Nuno Felt Pieces in 3D Shapes.

The Grand Gallery in the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel will host Fusion: Weaving and Shibori and several artists’ work.

Calder Art Museum at Grand Valley State Museum, Allegan, will house Sources and Resources: Works in Textiles and Metals.

The Muskegon Museum will host an African Textile Show.

Exhibits in the Detroit area will be Back to the Floor Rug Exhibit at Elaine Jacob Gallery, Wayne State University, and a fiber related exhibit at Cranbrook Museum.

Exhibits are planned in the greater Grand Rapids area, as well as throughout the state of MIchigan. Many colleges, local galleries, historic sites and art institutions will celebrate with HGA’s Convergence 2006 Grand Rapids by exhibiting fiber art during the summer of 2006.
