Good publicity is important for any event to be successful. Would you give a party and not issue invitations? To help you achieve your goal, here are some ideas:
Attached are four sample news releases. Tailor them to fit your group and its plans. Take the write-up to the Home/Family editor of the local newspaper. When you visit the newspaper office, discuss with the editor other coverage the newspaper might like to give for the Week. Invite him/her to come, with a photographer, to your guild meeting or to the demonstration. Give the editor leads on guild members who have an interesting story, such as: the one who founded your guild, the oldest member, the youngest member, the one who spins exotic fiber, or who keeps silkworms in the back hall or a llama in the back yard, or the one who wins prizes in exhibitions. All press releases should be double-spaced (which we have not done here in the interest of space).
