LOCAL SHOP JOINS INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATION

The Sheep to Shawl Shop will be joining with spinners and handweavers all over the United States to observe Spinning and Weaving Week, October 4-10.

Sheep to Shawl is one of more than 500 retail outlets around the country which specializes in supplies and equipment for a growing number of people who spin and weave, either professionally, or in their leisure time, according to owner-manager Merry Weaver.

Sheep to Shawl, located in the Riverton Craft Mall, has been in business for 21 years. It carries three lines of weaving looms and other weaving accessories, spinning wheels, and more than 500 different yarns especially for handweaving, with an emphasis on natural fibers. Lessons in both weaving and spinning are available through the shop.

The shop is open for business Monday through Saturday from 9-5, and will be having live demonstrations of spinning and weaving during Spinning and Weaving Week at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. daily. The public is invited. Free refreshments will be served.

Displays of handspun and handwoven items made by local craftspeople, whose skills range from beginning to advanced levels, all students or graduates of Sheep to Shawl's teaching programs, will be on view.

One highlight of the week will be a drawing for a floor loom which will be given away on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Anyone may enter the drawing by visiting the shop during the week. The winner need not be present to win.

Spinning and Weaving Week is an annual event sponsored by the Handweavers Guild of America, Inc., a member organization of affiliated guilds and individuals from all states and 28 countries.
